Very likely. To Commodore the SID was just a simple replaceable part. Not something that would cost 20 to 30 euro's. Besides Commodore cut cost on the mainboard as well by leaving out protection.

Ì have to agree with Hawkeye on this one. If the PSU fails (which is not unlikely considering its age) the 5V rail will turn into something like 10V turning your expensive SIDs into silicon debris.

If you use the right PSU...the mb6582 allows you to set different voltages per sid socket.

The one one the right does look best. But since he uses a laser he cannot cut it out of 1 piece. So he made one big piece of 2.5mm and one piece of 1.5mm. However there is a big chip of the corner of the 2.5mm piece. I'll have a little chat with him and see how confident he is about getting this right. The way it is now, i am not organizing a bulk order.

It should be possible. However if he doesn't have that particular color on stock, he will have to order a new plate. This will of course have an effect on the price. Richard is having some trouble getting the glue-ing of both part right. This is fairly obvious if you look at the pictures. The most right one looks somewhat better. However that is a 2,5mm piece inside a 1.5mm piece.

Just a little update. I have received 3 different samples. But not impressed with either of them. I will first have a word with the manufacturer, before we take this any further.

100uf after should be enough to keep it smooth even on longer lines.

A modular PSU of course.... All modular stuff is +/-15VDC. But you can adjust the LM317/337 to the right voltage :thumbsup:

If you insist on a linear psu, a power resistor is a good idea. You will need something like an 8 Ohm Resistor capable of handling at least 8 Watts. This way it will be possible to get the theoretical max of your 7805. If not the thermal protection will limit the amount of current flowing through the 7805. A thyristor is overkill in this situation imho. If dealing with SIDS i would say yes, since they are pricey and vulnerable.

I agree with Lyle. It's a good idea to do that. If you for instance look at the schematic for the Roland Juno 60, you will see that they do the same. And i would do all the regulators. Just a warning you will need a serious heatsink on the 7805. The transformer you will be using is at least 12VAC. Rectified it's close to 17V. As said there will be some losses, but it will still have to eat away something like 10V x the current. So if your setup draws 1A in current, that will be 10 Watts heat dispensation.

Are you sure? it says it's Skill Level 2.

I am going to use the same size Transformer for my psu, but just a 15V version. Since i am going to use a switching psu, i cannot heat my room with it in winter. Simulations suggest it's going to be 40 Degrees Celsius max. Using a switching PSU does not imply not using a transformer. The IC i use are DC-DC switchers and not . Although the later sound a lot cooler :wink:

It's about the opportunity for people to make what they can think of. It's not up to me to make a big statement about commercial use. Thorsten is the first that can make a statement about that. But besides that there are a lot of people that put a lot of hours into this community and the projects around it. I personally wouldn't appreciate it if i had a contribution which would then be turned into a commercial product. So i also think you are getting off on the wrong foot. First you should get to know the community. Make yourself added value. Then maybe, just maybe you can pop the question.

I don't know what you are going to use the AOUT_NG for. But it maybe worth reading this first.

The MIOS svn contains several different aout include files. Not sure if you can use that aout.inc with enabled aout_tlv5630.inc. But you could give it a go and see if it compiles.

Just a little update: I have sent the design in last monday. So currently waiting for the production sample. Will post a bunch of pictures as soon as i receive it.

Just to let you know, the company i am in contact with (http://www.frontplaten.net) agreed to make a free production sample for us. If that is to everybodies liking then i will start looking at some kind of bulk order.

Ofcourse, i actually have a piece of cd jewel case just cut up for that purpose. But then again, i put a lot of effort and money into this mb6582. I want to make it look at it best. And its only 8,50 euro.

I had some advice from Wilba about this. Checking now to see what the deviation of the machine is. Aiming for a snug fit. So that should be a no on the grime buildup :whistle:
