Hello,

finally I've built my big MBLC with 4 core modules (32Ch), 32 motorfaders, encoders, buttons etc.

First of all, thank you very very much for your help and particularly to Sasha for his wonderful illuminated push buttons.

As soon as I'll have some free time I'll post some pictures of my baby (as my wife call it).

Additionally I've built also 1 MB64, 1 MB64e and 2 MBFM: All of them are working great!!!!!!!

I have 3 questions, could you help me?

1 - My baby is made with 4 core modules, but when I start Logic pro 8, the fourth one is recognized as third and the third module is not recognized at all.

I checked and re-checked again all of the connections, the midi conn. to/from GM5 module, PIC ID but nothing.

2 - I made also a MB64e and I want to use like a Mackie C4: is it possible? I want to use it to modify parameters for EQ, AUX etc, without interfering with MBLC. How I can configure the sw to be burned onto the pic to do this?

3 - I purchased also MIXBUS sw from Harrison console 'cause I was using also Ardour and it's fantastic. Is it possible to use the same configuration (MBLC 32ch + MB64e) with MixBus?

once again if the harrison allows you to assign controllers to the on screen controls for automation then yes you can, make sure each control on the hardware has its own cc#, if you duplicate it on another control then each one will make the same on screen control move.

and one really important thing... wheres the damn pictures!! lol

now come on, no excuses or slacking, you have to put some pictures up for us to see your work ;)

Thank you very much SSP for you reply, but what I don't understand is how I have to configure MB64e to react on each channel selection. I mean, what I want to do is to use MB64e as a channel strip in order to modify AUX, EQ, EFX send, with only one set of encoders.

Here there are some pictures of my prototype (the first release that I made before draw new pcbs for encoders buttons and MF) and following the pictures of my final release without Sasha illuminated caps (not yet installed) and without case 'cause I don't still have clear in my mind what I have to do. Any suggestion?

if you look at the mackie c4 or the behringer bcr2000 you have multiple encoders, so if you take them top to bottm as a strip, then it becomes easy to do.

so if you had a grid of 8x8 encoders, the first line of 8 top to bottom are strip one and the next strip two and so on. then you can assign different functions to different groups, you just select the group function for what you want it to do. take a look at the tutorial page on ucapps http://ucapps.de/midibox64e_tutorial.html scroll down to morphing.

the 64e is a bloody amazing little control unit and the built in menu is so easy to use, combine it tiwht the editor and it makes things so easy.

as for the casework , yes i can help you with that, but we need measurements for positioning etc, its not difficult to do, but you need an origin point or datum point for reference, this is where all measurements are taken from. once you have a fixed point you measure the centre points to each button, encoder and fader etc, this then allows a quick face panel to be drawn with all the necessary tolerances for buttons and encoder shafts to poke through after paint or powdercoating.

prehaps a little tutorial would be in order regarding casework and how to layout and take tolerances into account.

I read the tutorial and as far as I understand, I can configure the first encoders row for EQ, the second for EFX, the third for aux send and so on and selecting a different channel they will affect only the selected one. Is it true? Am I right?

I also checked Harrison Mixbus and it seems to be configured with a standard mackie/logic control surface as well a generic control midi at the same time.

Julienvoirin, I designed the pcb layouts by myself using ORCAD, then I send the files to a Bulgarian company (Micron20), 'cause at that time I was in Sofia for my job, who makes a good quality pcbs for a cheap price (compared to the italian ones), but I think that it should be possible for them to deliver the pcbs at least around Europe. Have you tested your amazing controller with Mixbus? Will you offer pcb's? If so, what's the price?

I've not yet tested my baby with mixbus. I'll do it asap; it's on the todo list.

I don't have any spare pcbs (I made them for my custom layout), but if you want, I can send you all of the files I made (with ORCAD) or (if TK will allow me to do this), I can arrange a bulk order for a complete set of pcbs (1 for buttons and encs 8ch, 1 for transport and functions and 1 for motor faders).

Exactely, I don't know how much money I've put on this project, but if you want, I'll let you know it.

It's not so important for me how much money I have to spend (of course with some limitations) if compared with the happyness I received whet I switched on my baby for the first time!

Yes, it's an alluminium frame, but it's a prototype. I don't know how to make the case: alluminium? plastic? wood? all together? If some of you have an idea on how to do it I'll appreciate it or if some how you can do the front panels for me I'll pay for the job and for the material.

Where have you got the fader knobs from? I've never seen conductive knobs in white.

it's a pleasure to read your post!

You are completely right!!!

It was my mistake I made at the beginning when it was not very clear for me on how touch sensors were working when I purchased the plastic knobs.

Only when I put them on the faders I realized that I lost the touch sensors feature.

Now I'm waiting for the new knobs made especially for touch sensitive motor faders.

First... NICE job !!

Second.. I'm planning a 24ch 3 core MBLC to use as a mackie control in cubase, and as I understand it, each core needs to be connected on it's own MIDI port. Does yours link the cores by midibox link, or do you have a multiport interface e.g. GM5 module in it to connect each core to?

also, I'm wanting to use touchfaders, so I assume I'll need to use the PIC-based core, not the STM32 one

One port per 8 faders is a requirement of the Mackie Control protocol, so using a multiport interface is the one and only way to do it.

Thank you Seppoman. You're completely right!!!!

Yes, it's mandatory to use a different MIDI I/O for each Core Module. That's why I'm using a GM5 MIDI/USB interface.

I would like to build the same baby :rolleyes: I could do the frame, cover panels and find a parts, but I have no idea what type of parts I have to buy and how to put them togeather and get resault as you have got!

Hi,

sorry for delay in answer but I'm really busy...................

I've started to prepare the illuminated buttons made by Sasha (thank you very very much!!!!!). They are wonderful evenif they are a little bit difficult to build in a good way, but if you are not in a hurry........... no problem at all.
