  1. I also think, the maximum is 8 Faders per CORE...
  2. First of all, there are no stupid questions - only answers ! Answering Your Question: Your almost right. But you have to build - 2 and 1/4 DINX4 (let's say 2, because the 1/4 DIN is better wired sepaeratly on a vector board) - 2 DOUT The rest is ok. The LTC is "nice to have" but not neccessary (only if you need serial communication, it is a must) Hope this helps DOC

    Knobs

There's a great difference between pot and encoder. These are completely different parts A pot changes the resistor (analog) while changing the value and a rotary encoder "sends" on/off messages (digital). Doc
  4. There is an easy way to test the knobs: Just take your Multimeter and measure the resitance on e.g. both ends of the knob. You must measure 0 Ohm. If the test is ok you have to check if the knobs fit well on the faders. Also you can measure from the touchfader pin on the fader to the knob (with knob fitted on the fader, of course). You also should get (nearly) 0 Ohm for this Test. Hope this helps DOC
  5. Hi, 1N4007 Diodes can drive a higher current than 1n4001. You can use them also. Theres no problem. Just pay attention on the polarity. greets Doc
  6. Him I've looked up the english name for the styrolflex caps: At Farnell they are called "Polystyrene" and the MKT caps you can also define by the dielectricum "Polyester". Hope this helps DOC
  7. Only the two filter caps need the styroflex caps. The other caps in the audio tree (1nF , 470pF) should be polyester. (FKP). In fact these 3 caps aren't so complicable. I'm pretty sure you'll hear the difference only in high end applikations. But if you use good caps in the whole audio part you automatically reduce noise problems also. I'm also pretty sure that the styroflex caps have a different name in the US. I'll try to find out for you. Doc

    Gruesse und Lob

Hallo, die eeproms gibts nach wie vor am Günstigsten als Samples von Microchip .... (umsonst) Gruss Doc
  9. You're right, ceramic caps should't never be in a audio circuit. I wrote this some weeks ago in another post. I think I'm not able to explain the differences well in english. Just so much: It has to do with worse frequency stability and temperature drift of the ceramic caps. If you need a frequency stable circuit (like audio) don't use ceramic ... Better in Audio circuits are polyester caps or styroflex caps. In Germany the polyester caps are MKT or MKS or FKP type. Doc
  10. A really good question. I would like to know also. Doc

    8x 24LC512 ?!

Hi, I didn't check your layout. You can use the 512 without any modifikation, I think. regards Doc P.S.: Your english is much better than my french ... ;D
  12. ...mal ein Schuss ins Blaue ... hast du in der midibox_sid_v1_5c_18f_stepC jedem Core eine eigene ID gegeben ? Auszug aus der Main.asm: ;; ========================================================================== ;; General Settings ;; ========================================================================== ;; here you can change the default device ID - if you are using ;; some cores as slave, set: ;; o DEFAULT_DEVICE_ID 0x01 ; for the first slave ;; o DEFAULT_DEVICE_ID 0x02 ; for the second slave ;; o DEFAULT_DEVICE_ID 0x03 ; for the third slave #define DEFAULT_DEVICE_ID 0x00 ... Weiss nicht obs daran liegt, aber es ist ein Versuch :P Gruss DOC
  13. Hey T, I'm a little bit angry >:( because of of this fantastic design ! Please give me a little more time to finish my Box LC so that I can start direct with the sequencer. YOU ARE TO FAST !!!! I also wonder, where you get the time to build such wonderful machines. Sure is: This Sequencer is my next project ! I think we'll all have a serious problem.... while spending so much time on your projects we couldn't find any time to make music with all our "new" equipment ;D Do you feel the same ? Another thing: Some weeks ago I ordered my motorfaders at albs. I had a long telephone call (about an hour) with the manager. He's a really nice one. He knows exactly for what I was ordering the faders ... It would be possible to get better prices for faders and knobs, if we make complete orders within our community. Because of the quantity we'll get then better prices. But someone must manage this "shop". So my idea is, just to ask the community if they are interested. We could make collection orders and then get better prices. Albs is working on a web shop but they are not really interested in people ordering two knobs. I can understand this. So if people have a little time, we could collect orders. What are you thinking about this ? Doc

  17. Caps: The 10uF Cap (C5) at the Audio Out is uncritical. You can use a 10 or 16 V type. For the 470p caps (C1 C2) I would not use the kerko type. Better are FKP caps (Reichelt No: FKP-2 680p). The best solution are styroflex caps (Reichelt No: Styroflex 680p). They don't fit well on the PCB, but they make the best sound  ;D (all values are for the SID 6581. For the 8580 you have to use other values). The other caps I used: C3, C7 = FKP (I don't like ceramic caps in a audio circuit!) C4 = FKP C5,6 = Elko 16V C8 = keramic (just stabilizing, not audio) greets DOC

(messen!) Hast du schon einmal einen anderen Taster probiert ? Ev. den betreffenden IC einmal tauschen. Viel Glück Doc
  21. ...plug and pray
  22. I had the same proplem with the LED matrix. First of all the LED's were to dark. So I changed the 220 resistors against 180 and its was getting better (surely depends on what kind of LEDs you are using). But the flickering of all leds, was still there. I shortend the cables to the matrix and also payed attention that the PIC is not very near of the DOUT and the DIN. I also put a grounded metal plate between the Core and the DOUT. I also used shielded midi connections (this because of another problem). All these things solved finally the problem. I think we have to pay more attention on noise and grounding issues within the more complex projects. Perhaps it would be useful to make a FAQ about these issues. Also containing basics about noise and ground loops, etc. greets Doc
  23. ... hard to give you an advice without knowing the part. ;D My advice: Just test it with a medium load about 0.5A(not core or sid !) and check the output voltage (best: with an oszilloscope, if you have one). If it's getting very hot, its to small. greets Doc
  24. Perhaps a stupid tip: If the bankstick works in another box you should check the inter-connection from core to your Plug. Doc
  25. I had a simular problem. The new MIOS_v1.5b solved it. Don't know if it helps you, but try the newer MIOS. Doc
