  1. Sweet, thanks a lot for doing that! I'll be getting my print on tomorrow I think!!! Comparing the double and single sided layouts, I can't see any advantage at all with the dual layer if you're etching yourself. There are a few bridges to make, but that's hardly the end of the world!
  2. Well, you answered ok considering you didn't get me ;) That was what I thought, I didn't expect the core to be outputting analogue voltages! I was just checking.
  3. Personally, I can't see how having a large current limiter is going to draw more current!! As the resistance decreases, the device will be able to sink more current, but you can limit that easily with a transistor, and a proper rectifier on the power line will shut down well before you damage anything anyway. If you're getting the right voltage range, with everything appropriately buffered, I see no problem at all.
  4. Thanks for that TK, that's exactly what I was hoping for! I was thinking of getting a TX81z, but the MBFM beats it hands down, and i've got most of the parts already. Another thing I was wondering about was the inclusion of the CV outs. I assume that a CV out module is needed to access those, and that the 8 optional CV outputs which can be assigned to the LFOs and EG5s for controlling analog filters, VCAs, effects, etc referred to on the intro page are the built in handlers of the MBFM firmware??
  5. I was just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the implementation of the four possible channels in the MBFM. How does the channel allocation work?? As in, can I produce 6-voices of stereo, or only two MONO channels with three voices?? I'm sure the answer is available somewehere, I just don't know where! I would like to run my MBFM in stereo with 6-note poly if at all possible, but would I be restricted to MONO?? I'm running it from a guitar synth, hence the poly requirements.

    SwinSID Review

I use a GR-20 as well, best thing i've ever bought bar none!! I can actually get my synths to make the sounds I want now without my ham fisted attempts at keyboarding. Plus, there's something more organic sounding when you can get pitch bend on all the strings rather than globally. That said, only my CZ3000 actually supports that at the moment. For the others, I stick with chromatic mode (usually I play an organ patch)on the GR-20, which tidies up the pitch bend info sent to the ext synth (adds pitch quantisation), which really reduces pitch glitches. I did enquire about a 6x SID solution prior to the release of V2, but no joy. Even the present 8xSID doesn't really accomodate a 6xpoly option all that comfortably from my perspective. That's why i'm going with a stereo SID option, which will allow for a stereo 'mono' mode, and 6 x Osc poly mode. I can't see me using that often anyway, it's going in a stompbox style floor unit with an FM so...
  7. I personally don't see that as much of a comprimise. With the full control surface, it's relatively easy to reach over and turn up an LFO, or program a modulation delay into the patch. I rarely if ever use the pitch and mod wheels on any of my synths, but then none of those are an SH09 :(
  8. I know what you mean. Certain programs like ExpressPCB seem to just use via's as the ground connection, which is not always ideal really. Well, maybe it is, but I don't really have a great deal of experience with ground plane or double sided layouts just yet! I don't suppose you could upload a ready to print PCB layout could you?? I'd definitely like to give your single sided board a go, and i'm at work now so I have access to a laser printer ;)
  9. Seconded, I could use another in nice condition if there are some spare.
  10. Aout can track V/Oct or V/Hz. I suspect it can be programmed for more esoteric ranges, but i'm not sure of that. EDIT: Actually, if you were referring to the SSM itself, I believe that uses standard V/Octave scaling. Check out the datasheet, readily available via Google if needed.
  11. :-X *Jaicen crosses fingers and hopes he's still on the list.......*
  12. Sweet, how much is shipping from Serbia?
  13. Smash, you can pop one of the dodgy boards in my order next week, I think I can handle it ;)
  14. I've no idea how hard it is, but i've yet to come across a decent project for a DIY MIDI touchpad, not least of which one that uses recycled laptop parts! If such a project existed, i'd be building a few for sure.
  15. IIRC, the 2812 became the 3819 which was used in the Atari and C64 sound expander. Very basic 2-op FM, and I believe 4 voice. Not all that useful.
  16. I don't suppose you could pull the firmware from that PIC controlling the touchpad?? Maybe it could give some pointers as to how to build a MIDI touchpad controller, I know that's definitely something that i'd be enormously interested in.
  17. Please do post pics! They're great little things, cheesy but fun. Check out the sound on sound article, that will give you some insight as to how it works, apparently it's not all that straightforward.
  18. I have another issue actually. I can't get into the forum at all from my PC, I get a page not found error. I can access uCapps, and I can get in from work, so any ideas what's causing that? I cleared my cache, but to no avail.
  19. I don't know if it's even relevant but HKSS has a bad rep on the diystompbox community for selling dud BBD's and the like, including pulls from Karaeoke gear being sold as NOS. From what I recall, he was selling under a number of names back then too (maybe 8 months ago ??? ).
  20. Just a quickie to let you know my OPL3 got to me safe and sound this morning. I was actually surprised how big it is, I was expecting more of a challenge ;) Thanks again Wilba!

    fm vco

It would definitely be possible. All it really requires is a little customisation of the firmware, and a number of DIN and AIN boards, (maybe some DOUT's too). I can't help you do it, but do a search and you'll find all the info needed.
  22. Yeah, it may be old news but it's still freaking awesome!!! In a few years, I think we're going to see a whole heap of homebrew developments with the Wiimotes, particularly in abstract motion based composition and what not.
  23. Brilliant news man, i'll be in for some silkscreening shortly i'd imagine (OPL3 for starters, then Pokey, more MBSID stuff...).
  24. If it's the keyboard posted on the Diystompboxes forum, then he's using the pots, caps and resistors etc from inside the keyboard, rather than frankensteining a guitar synth out of it!
  25. I concur, it's pretty easy to get randomness like that from a number of sources, much harder to make something that conforms to musical structures! Will the pokey be able to play full musical intervals, or is it limited as in the Synthcart?
