  1. Hehe, never underestimate the public's capacity for 'I want one of those!!!' Any idea what the final tally was for the first run of PCB's?? I sort of wish it was like the x0xb0x, where each kit has a serial number. Then I could say I was one of the first... hehe With regards to the expansion port, I think that's more down to the individual user than Wilba to come up with uses for it.
  2. Looking pretty tasty there I think. Looking forward to getting my hands on mine!! When's the next batch getting made up, i'm gonna need two!....? ;)
  3. I'll give you TEN MILLION DOLLARS for those translucents!!!
  4. I've not had much time to work on my own filter clones yet. If you've only got one bad chip, and for the price you paid it wouldn't be too bad to get it replaced. In time, it's likely that the others will fail too though, which is something to consider.
  5. You might be better off getting a mid-90's MIDI rack unit or something for all those effects. That would take some serious building in the analogue domain! That said, my vote would be: Boss Dimension Chorus Rebote-based delay Smallstone/Ross Phaser A FET based distortion like the Dr-Boogie Reverb would be a difficult proposition. If you can handle tubes, build the Fender tube based spring unit.
  6. Whilst I agree that an integrated patch editor would be very cool, i'd much prefer to have a VST editor that will work within my host sequencer, so given a choice that's what I plump for.
  7. Did you guys see my last posts regarding paypal payments??? It would be a shame for this project to get cancelled because of money issues (though i'm sure we're all starving musicians ;) ).
  8. Actually Stryd, that's something that I'd not considered. For me to send £33 would cost £12 in fees.. However, for five lots of £33 it only costs £27 in fees, so that's only £5 in fees for say five PCB's. I think that's much more reasonable. Now I have a paypal acocount, so if nobody else volunteers, i'll co-ordinate the order. All those that have confirmed orders can paypal me, and i'll transfer the funds to Sasha. If that sounds cool, PM me and i'll create a list. Lets say October the 29th is the transfer day, so all paypal payments need to reach me by the 28th October. Once the PCB group order has been completed, i'll be happy to organise a group buy for components etc. Any comments or suggestions in this thread please.
  9. Glad to hear it's not just me that's really excited about this thing ;) I know all about powder coating, I used to manufacture bar-stools and furniture, and it's used extensively in the custom scooter scene as well. That looks like an industrial grade coating, the sort of thing that's always put me off powder finishes. The bubbles are due to surface imperfections, likely some grease on there. With regards to the brushed finish, I don't think it would be too difficult to achieve. All that is necessary is a planishing brush, which is likely what a powdercoaters or paint-shop will use to buff the panel before coating. It could then be clear coated to stop it oxidising. It wouldn't necessarily require stainless, mild steel would be acceptable (if less pretty). However, if it is possible to get the panels screened cheaply enough, I don't really see any problems there. I'm quite taken with your red panel, can you give us some more details on that?? I don't really care for the standard x0x aesthetics, so anything different is always worth considering, aparticularly with regard to the step buttons.
  10. Is that including my two???? I can't remember if I posted an "I'm in" !
  11. Ok, can you give me a price for 8 chips to the UK?? I'd like that many please!
  12. I don't think that powder coating is anything near acceptable!! The panel does look really nice though. What buttons are the holes sized for? I think 10eur is a great price for laser cutting, with shipping that looks pretty tasty. Would it be possible to have the panels in a brushed steel finish with laser engraved labels?? Now that would be f***ing awesome!! If not, who are you getting to do the screening, if anyone? I'll be getting to the bank at some time next week, can't wait to get this on the go!
  13. Surely there must be enough people to start an official second run of the PCB's?? If so, i'm still in for another set ... ::) haha
  14. I guess this is the place to ask something i've been wondering about for a while. I want to know what 8xSID's sound like playing two handed chords, maybe with PWM in a Juno style, things like that. Given that V2 now supports 8xSID's, can somebody (TK ::) ) record some full on poly stuff? I know there are demo's and things, but they tend to be illustrating a certain feature. If I had the webspace, i'd host a page myself in the style of www.synthmania.com I'm sure there are a lot of people eager to hear what this thing can do!! Can anybody oblige?
  15. Goblinz: What knobs were you thinking of getting from Albs? Personally, i'd like to see some 808 or Jupiter6 style knobs on there, but it all depends on the front panel design. If there's going to be a group order for that, the knobs have to match the aesthetics!
  16. Hehe, that sounds awesome! If you could get it to work from startup with a menu to choose games that would be the coolest arcade machine ever! Personally, i'm looking for another C64 breadbox too. I've got a spare SID that I want to put to good use, so if there are any about i'm next in line ;) I'm tired of buying broken stuff on ebay that costs more to ship than it's worth (in monetary terms at least!).
  17. I don't think it actually matters wether you use NSTC or PAL, if you're not going to be clocking it to a display. As long as you can get the timing fixed, you should be able to get it in tune more or less.
  18. So, is there a group buy in progress for these tasty LCD's?? If so, i'm gonna need at least one, but who do I pay??? ???
  19. The simplest solution for controlling an old ISA or PCI card would be just to get an old PC and plug it in!
  20. I think you can rest assured that's not likely to happen anytime soon! The Pokey is a very limited chip for musical applications. Doesn't it have problems in terms of pitch? Personally, I think it has some limited application for bass sounds and chiptune leads, but not much else. Still, if it was simple enough to build I think it would be a neat toy.
  21. Well, I was actually just after an update on the project as a whole, but thanks for replying Sasha. When you say that not many people have paid you, it could perhaps be because, like me, they've not actually received an email from you! I mailed to confirm my order, and i've been sat twiddling my thumbs since then, waiting for you to get back to me! Should we re-send our emails to make sure that you have the correct addresses??
  22. Any more news on this then??
  23. I'm interested in a pair, if the quality is good. Are you going to test the filters etc...?
  24. I'd say it's close enough!! A real pipe organ produces something more akin to square waves actually.... Besides, I want to hear 24 triangle oscs going at different harmonics! Anybody got a working 8xSID that can make up a sample?!
