SwinSID - a pin compatible alternative to the SID chip
Goblinz replied to TheFumigator's topic in MIDIbox SID
I understand it's the same modules that make up the MB-6582. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the MB-6882 in any way, I think it's an amazing thing you have done for the community there. I just feel that it will be a greater learning experience for me to learn about building the modules seperately as well, I certainly want to build a set up so I can mix and match, try different things out and learn how they all work. Eventually i'm looking at designing my own midibox so I need to learn about each module in depth, unfortunately the only way I seem to be able to learn and take information in is by doing rather than reading. SwinSID - a pin compatible alternative to the SID chip
Goblinz replied to TheFumigator's topic in MIDIbox SID
Hmnnnnn...... I want one, sounds a bit like a 303. Dunno if I want to substitute a couple for some 6582s in my Wilbabeast though, wouldn;t be a MB-6582 then. I think I may have to build another midibox, which is good. By building the MB-6582 I feel that I'm missing out on learning about the MBHP and how it all fits together.... So quite a few projects now... MB-6582, Mr Midi thingy, MB-FM, Swinsid and something else I'm looking at ;) Think I may have to cancel some holday at some point. G -
"Quantity: 22 available" for the 6581 "Quantity: 24 available" for the 6582 According to the ebay listing.

For all those that are still missing SIDS. Wilba still has a very limited supply of the 6582 SIDS available. http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=10044.0 G

Still need some ALBS knobs for the MB-6582? 2nd European order.
Goblinz replied to Goblinz's topic in Bulk Orders
Sorry, things have been a bit upside down over the past few weeks. My Aunt has had terminal cancer and finally passed away last week, so I've not been able to dedicate time to consentrate on getting these knobs sorted. I'm just getting everything back on track now and should be sending off for the PO from ALBS later today so they should be with us soon. Sorry about the delay/lack of communication on this. G -
How to modify DOUT for dimming contorl of led matrix?
Goblinz replied to intellijel's topic in Design Concepts
Sorry if i'm being ignorant here, but could a set of pots be used to DIM the various LEDS? I'm mainly thinking of the modulation matrix here. G -
Wilba... Are you planning something big with these? (something like the MB-6582). I'd previously decided I wouldn't bother with a MB-FM as I have a keyboard with a mini FM synth built in. After hearing TK's sound samples I may change my mind though.... Either that or build a filter box. Just wondering if I should order one or if a few more can be chained together. G

Just found some SID chips on ebay, based in the UK 6851 chips here at £10 each http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Commodore-64-6581-SID-Chip-NOS_W0QQitemZ320190102996QQihZ011QQcategoryZ4193QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD4VQQcmdZViewItem 6582 cips here at £20 each http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Commodore-64-6582-A-SID-Chip-NOS_W0QQitemZ320190077491QQihZ011QQcategoryZ4193QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD4VQQcmdZViewItem Goes to show what a great deal wilba is giving us on these. Sorry, my mistake
-
Wikipedia has this to say about debouncing. Basically it results in a messy output from the switch, rather than nice on and off signal you end up with almost a noisy wave as the switch "settles" which can cause problems with the rest of your circuit. Check out some debouncing circuits here http://www.mitedu.freeserve.co.uk/Design/debounce.htm. G

No need to apologise. I don't know what the issue is here. I just want my x0xb0x PCB :D
-
Not wanting to act like forum police here, but please can we keep this thread vaguely on topic, and not start bickering no matter who's fault it is. No offence intended.
-
My mistake. I ended up going straight to the kits page for some reason. Gonna have to build one when I've finished with the MB-6582 and the x0xb0x.... It may take a while! G
-
I want one.... why can't it be open source though?
-
I'd rather wait for when SmashTv has time sort kits out as it seems to be more cost effective than us all ordering seperately. I was just wanting to know if it's going to be this year or next. There's nothing to stop you from doing a mouser parts list, but i'd wait to get an answer from Smash first, they could be waiting all ready to go :D G
-
Does anybody know the progress on these parts kits? I was planning on taking a couple of days off over Christmas to build my synth and am just wondering if the parts kits will be ready by then. I understand that there's quite a lot of work involved in putting these kits together so don't want it to appear that I'm nagging SmashTV to get them done, but it would be useful if I could find out if they are going to be ready for the end of the year or next year. ORDER CLOSED The remainder of the paypal invoices will be sent out this weekend. -
I had an idea for light up knobs whilst sat in a car the other day. A lot of cars have knobs for the heater, etc which have a translucent pointer, suitable for underlighting. They are usually fairly flat, broad knobs but there's loads of different types and sizes, when I get a chance I'm going to nip down to the local scrap-yard and see what I can find. Most cars have several matching knob. G
-
LOL.... "MB6582 of the week"
-
I wonder how they'd look if the bottoms were sanded down a bit? Obviously they couldn't be made much smaller because of the fairly large holes in the panal. I may get some spare knobs in the next order and investigate this... Wouldn't want to wreck the translucent red ones though :-\ G
-
Very nice! People commented that they expected the ALBS knobs to be bigger but they look perfect to me. The mis-aligning of the labels on the fron-panal doesn't look to be too much of an issue once the thing is put together. I think we're oing to have an aweful lot of Wilbabeasts appearing on here in the next few months.

Ooooh.... nice idea. I have a really old amp somehwere at home that I was going to try and fix up... will have a look tonight. G -
http://www.hackaday.com/2007/11/16/how-to-where-to-find-parts-for-your-projects/ Eactly what it says on the tin!

I completely forgot that this thing had a little sequencer built in to it. Do you have to hand code the sequences or is there a nice GUI that will produce them? I would be good if if there was something like a recorder setting, or a recorder app to run on a pc... So you could play a sequence on a midi keyboard and then then it could be recorded on the MDSID or a PC app could do the same but output the code to upload to a bankstick. It's times like this when I wish I could code.... going to start learning C in the new year after I've built the thing and have some spare time again. G

I know this is thinking way ahead but I've been looking at some knobs! We could save a bit on buying a few of the same type. I really like the curved ones in the opening post with the white marker. I've been having a look at various sites and put a page up with a few different knobs on. Click here to take a lookhttp://fullmoon-festival.110mb.com/knobs/knobs.html. Personally I think that "A" and "C" would go really well together, but I do like "B" very much. What are people's thoughts on this, do we want to arrange a group buy or are people happy sorting themselves out? G
