  1. News Inside the forum64 thread is a link to an ftp server, there you can find the pcb layout and the "early alpha" source code.
  2. HI, FIrst step always look at the menu at ucapps.de There you (mostly) find everything. In this case go to ucapps.de > MIOS > Programming > MIOS32 > and you find examples hosted at github http://www.ucapps.de/mios32_c.html Number 10, enjoy!
  3. Welcome, you can find answers here http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid_manual.html You can put in 8 SIDs but you can not separately use them. 2 SIDs are handled by 1 Core = 2 SIDs are used for polyphony and Stereo. You can ask someone to build you a Box, here.
  4. You're right. Than this is because Swinsid includes some more Waveforms, did not know that. Yes this is a great project and yes if you mean with mod to modify the code, of course because you can also program more waveforms into the free sid. The cool thing about an emulated sid is that you can make it bigger, better and whatever but this also means to add program lines inside the menu. But, at the moment, this project is just announced. The first batch of pcbs are ordered and will be send to everybody which ordered one and than the alpha software will be created. It is also possible that the pcb will get an update and be sure that there will be a new batch in a month or 6 weeks, maybe...
  5. Hi Darryl, No mods needed. Stereo will work like the fpgasid, so you just need to use one slot and connect one cable from the core Special MIOS Code? Are you sure? I know that there is a special SwinSID firmware for better filters with the swinsid... You just need a top pcb (not sure if it's possible to build at a breadboard, it's no magic but maybe in case of lack of space) for a teensy 4 and the code which is in development. I've got an eye at this project and keep this thread up to date for news and if there a new pcb orders.
  6. Great news, a guy called Matthias in the german C64 Forum started a project for a DIY SID based at a Teensy 4 and released prototype PCBs. https://www.forum64.de/index.php?thread/103503-free-stereo-sid-neuentwicklung-zum-mitmachen/&pageNo=7 If this will be succesfull (they do a lot of succesfull projects) it will be possible to build and flash an emulated SID and also new Oscillator Waveforms, Filter models or whatever.
  7. I say yes because those cooling blocks are not very expensive and a lot of C64 User - use them. It's better than nothing but will not protect them.
  8. Ok, this is a question. You have 1 7809 v regulator and 1 7812 (12v for 6581) by using the jumper you choose. You always should measure your voltage after soldering your pcb (and test the jumper), so than you are save. However, I recommend using a SwinSID if you are a Beginner or want to be on the really save side and protect your SIDs as long as you are in the soldering/building/testing progress. And care about the advice I gave you about 6581, they are old, they are rare. It's better to use just 2 or 1 instead of them all because they are old and rare and they are kind of fragile now.
  9. Thats right. You need to buy the 2 pcbs at modularaddict and I think this is the case (PT-10) https://www.pactecenclosures.com/product-detail.php?productid=189&seriesid=50&classid=26 but I'm not really sure. All Information about the mb6582 you find with that keyword inside the wiki as you may already know and in the forum section.
  10. The only problem I see is that the mb6582 software for the Master Core is by default programmed for the 8580. This is not a big deal, it works but it would be better to have 8580 chips or the 6581 software (which doesn't exists) ... a) Recompiling is also not very hard but you need someone who could do that or you learn it and do it by yourself. b) You could use the setup6581.hex instead of the setup mb6582.hex c) Are you sure all of the 6581 work? Sell or keep your 6581. Using all of them is not very clever because they die sooner as the 8580 and they become rare. They sound unique and do have their oportunities but an 8580 is more precise and the filter has more potential.
  11. Yes. Bank E F G is not present because they don't exist but it's software enabled.
  12. You mean implementing the software? * You will need some control software as part of the MidiBox software to change the FPGASID settings (switching between 8580 and 6581 mode etc) in case you whish to do so. --- I think it's possible that somebody could implement some code to switch the fpgasid from 8580 to 6581 with the Midibox BUT Each SID Version needs different Filter Caps and a different Filter table provided by the firmware. Building a code which would change the Filter table, maybe possible (if there is space left in the PIC), but you also must change the Filter Caps by opening the box or maybe build an extra analog circuit for the Caps which than need a switch. You also need to know, the sammich is a stereo SID solution, both SIDs are handled like the same (2x8580 or 2x6581) It´ s more complicated than it seems, unfortunately.
  13. It is normal that it has changed to 0 because this is the default id if you flash mios.
  15. Yeah, you're right, I did the bivert mod, too but mistaked this with the amp ; / Thanks for the Info about the headphone mod. I've got a question left but will use open message instead the thread.
  16. Offtopic I bought the gameboy amp, too and wanted to built in but it is just for amplifying the speaker, not the phone output, right?
  17. You need to look here, as I said, because everything is described there, dude. http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid_manual_hw.html You need 1 Core8 and 1 or 2 SID module pcbs and maybe a bankstick. Midi in and out is given by the Core.
  18. Polyphony is another reason, take a look at the Menu Guide to get all Infos. The sammichSID design is great and compact, you just can't buy it anymore because it is a design of a user named wilba and he didn't released the pcbs for open source as far as I know. But it is "nothing" more than some separate modules put in one mainboard.
  19. You need the Core and the SID Module and you find everything at ucapps.de —>Midibox SID walktrough, or look at SID Module and Core module there you see the pcbs and a List of what you need. Midi In and Out is already given by the Core. Anyway, if you live in the US or can get the pcbs of modular addict without brutal shipping costs, you should buy the midibox sid mainboard of the mb6582 because it is cheap and you can just stuff the minimal operating stuff. And if you choose to upgrade, stuff the rest. And if you recognize that a control surface and lcd is nice, order the control panel.
  20. Well this is he third issue I also had but forget how to solved this ;) But I'm kind of sure it was a short - located at the bankstick area and connections.
  21. This is, unfortunatly, normal with the original 6581. You need to use an noise gate effect, to get it under control.
  22. I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's because of the Midi Channel. Bassline sends at M Channel 1 so you change the SID at Core 2/3/4 to Channel 1. I can't test it by myself atm.
  23. I'm not a pro but heard using an arduino for building midi/sound devices isn't "the weapon of choice" it's just very populated, documented and easy to get. (I say how I see this, someone with better knowledge correct me if I am wrong) Also, the design is old, there wasn't much more other solutions at this time but still good enough, today. Today, TK may would use the Core stfm 32, but I think it's just not necessary. The Midibox project is a detailed documented gift for others to build this devices in the way the inventer choose it. If there is nobody porting the stuff to other solutions, document it and share it with others, there is no other but it is, sure, possible.
