-
Jakes, how do you plan arrange those displays on the panel? What is the idea?

I already mounted some heatsink to feel better... -
Optimized C64 PSU cricuit blowout - blew 2 c64 PSUs... no idea why
Sasha replied to Slorrin's topic in MIDIbox SID
Sure, regulator is heating, but to me it seams not normal if regulator is much more hot when no load than when SID is running. -
Optimized C64 PSU cricuit blowout - blew 2 c64 PSUs... no idea why
Sasha replied to Slorrin's topic in MIDIbox SID
I am also using optimised PSU for my 8580 SID and I noticed the regulator heats too much when no SID is powered on. I suspect I blown a fuse on C64 PSU probably because of that, but cannot exclude It was my fault. Can I build some better optimisation? It seams this one is not so perfect. -

How many characters(horizonal) exist in original MCU's LCD...??
Sasha replied to pilgrims1's topic in MIDIbox HUIs
NP mate, I am also strugling with designing of 16 CH. LC and Doc is helping alot as he is much experienced builder than myself ;) -
Mahagony... are you sure? I get 2 peaces of mahagony after alot of hunting which I save for secial case, but mine is darker and kinda more redish than yours. Maybe it is because of camera... Annyway, nice box and nice knobs.

Sasha replied to pilgrims1's topic in MIDIbox HUIs
Wellcome aboard Pillgrims. I am building LC and I decided to solve the easthetic problem by hiding unnecessery/unused part of 2x40 LCD module under the panel. Panel is cut to show just needed section of screen without sacrifying the character count. New problem is space between every 4 faders which is directed by the length of LCD modules itself so If you are making big 32 or 48 chanell controller it could increase the width alot, so you might consider using 2x24 characters LCD. Good luck -
Jaybee, at first I had picture in my head of myself tweaking those knobs and it looks pretty sick as it is doll. But now I see you are female, so it makes much more sense. ;) But I would like to have big window doll or crash test dummy which can have whole SID sint or sequencer in it and alot of knobs and plugs. It would be somehow more suitable for man. :) Did you make it by yourself? Annyway, congratulations. AFAIK you are the only female on the forum. Wellcome!

I esimate mine quad SID would cost not more than 100 EUR. You can save alot of money using non aluminum panels. My panel is going to be made out of laser cut/engraved plastics. Panel is going to cost me less than 15 EUR including 2 supporting subpanels (without material itself as I already have it). I used that material before and it is great - scratch proof, sturdy and inexpensive. I also dont have to buy SIDs as I already have it, so I save pretty much money on those most expensive parts. It pays off if you put some effort in finding good part source as dj3nk already said. MBSID step A is what you shoud start with, and when you hook up, you will know how you want to upgrade it. If you good with hands and put alot of time and effort in it, you can make pretty inexpensive gear but great thing is to make something that is so unique, acording to your needs/design that canot be bought annywhere in the world and it is great satisfaction for builder! Also, you will learn alot wile building this even yuo have experience with electronics. Good luck

Thank you very much Doc, I was kinda confused with Alex`s one button per channel labeled select/vselect. http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=761.0 It is hard to experiment with LC if it is not fully built. I tried, but it becomes very messy if there is no panel to hold everything together, but to make proper panell I need to test how it works. It is like wicious ciycle :-\ Too bad I cannot link MB64 to LC. I tought I just cannot link LC extension to LC because of the protocol. I really like what I saw of LC but would be great to add some more dedicated pots. Thanks again Doc. I am going to continue with drawing my box ;)

MIDIbox of the Week (2xMIDIbox LC made by eufex)
Sasha replied to eufex's topic in MIDIbox of the Week
Hey eufex, nice job! I like idea of using sliders for send. Short sliders are much faster to operate than rotaryes. One thing is strange to me on your Live controller. I see you are using 2 buttons and LEDs for selecting the A/B, but that function in Live is mapable only to one multipress button. Press once>B, press twice>A, press trice>none. Is that planing error. I made that kind f error on my NI Traktor controller. I made two buttons for filter type selection, but Traktor supports only one. Please explain. What kind of touchpad you used for your boxes? I like it. -
Kris, thank you for link but I`ve been there before. I learned droning and screaming pretty quick but that breathing takes so much concentration that it becomes funny, and every time I need some time to stop laughing at myself and sound I am making while trying to inhale while droning. ;D I guess I never tried hard enough to learn it. But I like the sound I can produce, so at one hand I am not completly unsatisfied since I can make some looping segments I can play with. Didge and delay or reverb can be so fun. ;)
