  1. that's how i understood it. it would be the easiest way to get both in a 1U unit. the only drawback is just that half of the jacks (incl usb) are turned around, and the numeric order is reversed too, as well as in and outputs. but no need to drill holes for panel mount parts etc. that drawback is actually not that bad if you're not gonna plug things on the backside every day.
  2. yes that's what i was hoping. i'm in for 2 then :)
  3. +5V 4A (!) +12V 2 A -12V 0.5A is the 500mA for -12V enough to power a) MB6582 with 4x seppoman filters and 2x seppoman VCAs? (Aout_NGs) b) fully stuffed SeqV4 STRM32 with Aout (MAX525) and all the midi outs and Gate buffers? i know, good question, but maybe someone who build it that way knows that? in this case i need 2 psu
  4. i say, if the parts are easy to get and not extremely expensive it will include the panel stuff too. i'll get ready for it with my next Reichelt order. yeah the best would be something 19", maybe 2 inside? but i enjoy looking at others too. will be interesting to see what people have in mind, without strict rules. gtxdude's small design looks awesome too, it's a nice approach. what did it cost to have it made? it looks in fact so good that i'm thinking of getting one like that.
  5. then how about you change your count on the list and add sinesurfer too, that way you don't need to ship twice. as long as the total amount on the list doesn't change there should be no problem
  6. looks like the back will be the front side of the pcb. what size is this?
  7. Yay!! Thank you! First entry! looks great. and the case looks like very good quality too. Awesome design
  9. there have been some members cutting some for us, but that's been some time ago and i don't know if they still have their CNC. but you can always have some plexi milled at places like Schaeffer or Frontpanel Express. if i remember correctly you'll find the files that you can send them on Wilba's MB6582 WIKI page and send them to Schaeffer etc. (the windows files for the sequencer were posted on the respective wiki page and i could order right away. i guess same for MB6582)
  10. can you detach the frontpanel from the pactec frame? i haven't touched a pactec case so i don't know how exactly it is. in case you can, maybe you can try to get something like a ruler between the panel and the top of the encoder bodies? something that doesn't bend and will hold them down, at least the first ones at the borders. good luck
  11. yes, С днем рождениÑ, schrab!
  12. you're right, one should be enough and 9 on the back is more than enough actually.
  13. i'll have a look for switches too. i got 2 round six layer / 2 pole pushbutton toggle switches here with on/off indicator . these would be great but i believe they're far from 'available'. but since with 5 layers (or what it's called) we'd need just 2 switches total for both channels it wouldn't be that much a financial issue if they cost a few bux (sorry, i mean bucks) and yes a labeled back side would be great, it's important to see what you're doing without touching it with the nose in dim light behind the racks
  14. exactly. and on top of that you'd have the order of the channels both going from outside to the center.
  15. it would be great to have all 20 midi jacks on the back as well as the usb connectors. and on the ones on the front maybe with a switch each so you could easily switch over to front when you like to test new equipment and keep the standard wiring on the back. but sure that's probably not what everybody wants, and i can just drill those 2 extra holes on my panel (and more desired midi socket holes on the back) does the competition also include a design for the back side? or would a drilling guide to diy be enough? a thing to consider is that there are different cases, so it would be good if there could be some minimum distance from the borders to allow use of different case types. if there's a nice midibox glorifying design and some interest we could do a bulk order. i need 2 at least. we could ask julianF if/when there are some numbers. and if we can find easily available standard panel mount parts i'll include the panel stuff too in the priZe.
  16. ok i'll deliver the rest of the board components then for the winner (not the panel mount stuff). how about opening a thread in the misc forum and a mod could move the posts there? i just looked we won't get 2 boards next to each other in 19" and on top of each other won't work either. so it would have to be all panel mounted. preferably easy to access midi jacks (Reichelt maybe) are there panel mount usb jacks? another way would be one on the front and one on the back, but wouldn't look so clean. about judging, there could be a poll and every member could vote if they like.
  17. true! you can leave the usb cable plugged on the backside (for example to connect a laptop). if there's a dedicated pc it can stay connected anyways. seems like i need one more gm5x5x5 board then. so i could have just not edited my entry to the list  edit to add: sure, if there are spare mini pcbs i'll help to get rid of them too.
  18. great idea technobreath (but i'm no admin)... maybe you could offer it as price for the best Schaeffer/FPE 19" 1U panel layout for 2 instances of the GM5x5x5, all in/outs on the back, on the front the usb, leds and maybe 1 or 2 pairs of midi jacks on the froont too for easy access on the fly, switchable! haha that's not at all selfish  the contest thing would be a great thing for beginners i think.
  19. here's a link to mike's shop, last position in midi-kits, there's also the pcb only available. but ask him for the version that allows for both PIC types, 18F... and the smaller 16F... http://www.mikes-elektronikseite.de/mshop_englisch/
  20. i haven't heard of changes. but there might come some (i don't know) with the future SID V3.
  21. yeah the pic burner (especially the newer layout with different chip sizes) is easy and cheap to build and works fine. you're from the US, i don't know if smashTV carries it. but if not you can get the pcb from mike.
