  1. I don't think you'll find SMD sockets, because SMD doesn't have the strength to handle the forces of having cables pushed and pulled like a socket will have.
  2. I wanna put serious brakes on this. The last set of changes isn't finished yet, by a long shot. Let's do one at a time or we'll end up with 5 updates running in parallel and none of them finished.
  3. If you hold off for a short while, maybe the right switch will become available and you can save yourself the trouble of desoldering it and of killing a c64 :)
  4. No worries mate :) I archive as much as I can for ... well.... I don't know the reason, but it comes in handy sometimes :D
  5. Well... It is a prototyping machine so it's not like you'd use it for making the actual knob you'd put on the synth... Idea is, you design the knob, then print it, and use the printed knob to make a mould for making the real knobs. I've been on the reprap RSS feed for a year or so now, it's really interesting to watch these guys go for it :)
  6. And that's precisely why I always tell people - don't put your code and documentation on some other web server, it will only get lost in time. There's plenty of storage here. sm_32x32.zip sm_32x32.zip
  7. http://encyclobeamia.solarbotics.net/articles/vxx.html :)
  8. Yeh sure, I don't see why not...
  9. I would look to two places - MIOS code, and piclist.com
  10. Ahhh.... no point in speculating now... Just try it, and if there's a problem we can attack it.
  11. Why not try it and find out? ;)
  12. Good lord, no. Soldering is sufficient chemicals for me ;)
  13. Funny I just started the same hunt myself.... No luck yet. Gotta hit all the suppliers to industry that are on google, ughh.
  14. **SLAP** Dude. PLEASE tell me that was a joke and you forgot the smiley.
  15. :( Geez I hope you're OK man!! Forget the SIDs, take care of things and take your time :)
  16. It's for capital. You're refinancing your SID, we get it. Julien has asked, TK has spoken, IMO no further talk is needed, for or against.
  17. So you have successfully uploaded MIOS and applications to other cores with this interface? Cause so far I haven't seen any evidence that it works ... Mine worked fine for sending midi notes and CCs and some lighter sysex...but the midibox wouldn't put up with it. Would you like to tell me what interface it is? Have you checked that you have made any core mods necessary to run your version of MIOS? Have you tried upgrading the bootloader? I'm sure it can't hurt to try reburning it etc... What did you burn with originally?
  18. I would get a JDM too. Takes a big question mark away from things ;) You can order both from smash and save on shipping. I recently saw someone who's RX pin was misbehaving after their PIC was programmed in LVP mode... Maybe you'll find something about HVP mode with your programmer and can try that... but yeh, maybe your PIC is fried...
  19. Just unlucky dude... often they are dead when they are 'new'. In the biz we call it a DOA.
  20. Ahh that 'secrets' PDF really opens up the possibilities, thanks AC!! Before, it was basically an IC and a big mystery about how to use it ;) As for the SOIC, I wouldn't worry about that - you put all that junk on the CS panel PCB assembly as per that PDF. I don't know if you've seen the scanning matrix chips they have... Pretty tasteful stuff....
  21. Well, that's an analogue input, not digital... You'd have to be a bit of a hardware and software development whiz, but I guess it's doable...
  22. Welcome aboard mate. That's a good example of how to ask a question!! Well, those tests were designed to figure out a point of failure... And it's all pointing at your RX pin. :-\ How did the bootloader get on this chip? Have you had any 'accidents' that might have cooked it?
  23. Yeh, that's no good.... Have you tried the midi troubleshooting document on ucapps.de? What MIDI interface are you using? I have one that will never work and one that is rock solid... Maybe the common link between these three cores is the MIDI interface you're uploading with.......
  24. Nice one mate :) I bought a VIC20 (bad ebay description) and a c64 (to rip SID from), and honestly at the time I had NO interest in playing games on either of them. They were purely to pillage for parts. Well with these boxes, happen to come a shiatload of games... When I was throwing them aside to get at the tasty SIDs within, I accidentally cast my eyes upon a game I used to play back in the 80's on a friend's '64. The memories came flooding back, and I've decided to buy a switchbox and hook them up in the living room. They'll be the only computer games played in my house since DigDug :) So I guess I got a slight understanding of why some people don't like the idea of them being ripped up. Maybe I'll save the '128 after all. Good luck in the hunt mate :)
  25. Damn you're fast. I still feel sorry for your keyboard ;)
