Hey everybody, I recently got ahold of a dremel for cutting panel holes for my buttons. The problems is that after cutting the holes out, some of them are to big and when it is finished I will have gaps on the sides of the buttons showing bread board down below. The cuts are not to far off but could use some fixing up. Is there some kind of epoxy or caulk that can be applied by hand and rubbed in that will settle and harden? I will probably do a silk screen over it so cosmetics will not be an issue once I get this hole problem sorted out. Any tips would be appreciated. Regards, echo

Big bump here TK, Looking at your picture of the led matrix it looks like the row (left to right) has its wire touching the panel and the column (up and down) are raised from the panel. Is it ok to run your leads touching the panel or am i not see correctly? Are they both elevated from the panel? Did you use cut resistor leads or whats the trick? Regards, echo

Do both vca and vcf modules work in mbfm's signal path aswell?

Hello, This topic has been posted to take care of questions and answers regarding sd cards for core32 use. My main questions are 1.What type and size of sd card is compatible? 2.What style of female housing is preferred push/push or push/pull? 3.Also what style of female housing regarding standard or reverse type? 4.Any tips on mounting? 5.And I came across a digikey link that had something similar to what TK was using but now I can't remeber where I saw it. MB-SEQ V3/V4 Control Surface PCB and matching case
Echopraxia replied to Wilba's topic in MIDIbox SEQ
Thanks WIlba. Now it is very clear. Have you given any thought about just running the bulk without dougs case, midi and power sockets aswell? I assume you are ready to roll out the pcbs with switches, caps, enocoders ect yes? Is it general public appeal to wait for dougs case? Might aswell try to clear that up aswell. I know he has been busy with mb808 but I haven't really got an answer as to whats going on with the seq case. Any one know? Regards, echo -
Is it possible to power the core with 5v from a +12v -12v power supply? I would like to use the 12v supply for powering the mbfm and also power the core 5v at the same time. Would a circuit need to be made? Or can I just split the lead of the +12v wire off to the +5v core input and keep grounds together? I don't know what I am doing. I just don't want to kill myself ;) regards, echo

Just curious on what your thoughts are on this power supply and if it would be good for numerous midibox stuff including core32 maybe? I was mainly looking for something that could do +12v/-12v for mbfm. http://www.pickeringtest.com/pdf/41-720D.pdf

MB-SEQ V3/V4 Control Surface PCB and matching case
Echopraxia replied to Wilba's topic in MIDIbox SEQ
Ultra What exactly do you mean the core32 won't fit? Are you talking about the case design doug is making? or are you talking about control surface pcb connections to core32? Wilba Anychance you have figured out which components you are going to include in the bulk run yet. I just wanted to start sourcing parts that you are for sure not going to include. Thanks again for this huge effort. Regards, echo -
group buy #2 for ultracore (core + 4x IIC + 8 banksticks)
Echopraxia replied to ultra's topic in Bulk Orders
Ultra, Can your ultracore be used in an mbfm build? Any limitations or conflicts ect..? I got two from your old bulk run and was gonna use one for mbseq and one for mbfm. Regards, Echo -

Awsome! How much did the panel, buttons and wood cost? What type of wood is that called by the way? Can we see inside? -
MB-SEQ V3/V4 Control Surface PCB and matching case
Echopraxia replied to Wilba's topic in MIDIbox SEQ
I have never packed and shipped a thousand resistor networks, ICs ect.. but I can imagine. I agree with everybody else that you should leave that up to digikey or mouser. You already have enough on your plate with switches, caps, encoders, knobs, leds ect.. If you make it to easy people will think that this thing can put itself together ;) I am sure you have had people asking to buy everything form you and they will just take everything to there tech guy and have him/her diy for him -
Why would i want to use SIL headers?
Echopraxia replied to carsten_the_dane's topic in Tips & Tricks
isn't this what you need? if not then you might probably be better saving your time and just get some high quality crimps to solder to some wire and put some heat shrink over it. Then the crimped cable can be directly inserted into the header. I found it the best way for trouble shooting certain areas of the boards. I would still use certain IDC connectors for 1 to 1 connections. Hope this helps -
Thoughts of building the midibox seq3 is making me sick!!! Help!!!
Echopraxia replied to guitarsshop's topic in MIDIbox SEQ
Usually just having the right tools helps alot. Get a good thin solder (not thick like for audio cables) a good wire stripper, some cheap ribbon cable, idc connectors for the cable connections, some plastic/metal pcb to case mounting columns and a multi meter. I am sure I am forgetting something. If you have already soldered oscilators you can totally do this. I didn't know jack and it took me alot of reading and preping. I finished the pcbs but the panel becomes a design issue and thats where I started to lag because of how many times I thought about how I would case this thing. Now after taking so long I will have din, dout, core and iic boards that will need to go in something else because everybody here fraking kicks ass. I second the idea of waiting for the all in one solution from Wilba, Doug and Ultra. It would be the least path of resistance. But read up in the meantime and maybe buy some cheap pcb kit just to get some experience with soldering resistors ect.. but like I said if you have done oscillator before this probably won't be nessecary. Regards echo -
I don't see the need for more than that either.I think if it makes the UI more understandable and productive then leave it that way. But...would it complicate things if you could have 16 drum instruments on a track. Would that mean 2 layers per instrument and still 64 steps? I think being able to edit the notes/cc ect.. is more important than squeezing more instruments into a track. I could think of many circumstances that I would want 2 notes playing, mod wheel and pan at the same time for one drum instrument. And those would use up the 4 parameter layers for each drum instrument in a track correct? Regards Echo

MB-SEQ V3/V4 Control Surface PCB and matching case

Sorry I didn't mention this before and sorry if its already been covered. Is there room on the pcb for the 3 digit bpm display? Are there enough spare dout pins for this to work? -
I messed with ableton live alittle and my impression was that it is like a very big mmt-8 sequencer. How does midi file dumping work when you try to bulk load midi into ableton? Can you send whole songs to ableton and and have each midi track as differnt clips in live? I still like using a good piano roll and arranger and live seemed to be lacking(not my taste) in this regard. I wouldn't mind using other sequencers and dumping midi songs into ableton for live freestyle. Can that be done pretty easy?

As for reaper, you can get away with just using left and right click on most things and ctrl, shift and del come into play but I think you can still use just the mouse for thoses functions too but I am not entirely sure on that. As the midi editing goes I love it. Hardware or VST. When I enable a track for recording and record I can turn and twist my knob err knobs and the cc data will come up on the track. I have not post-edited midi data too much aside from automating volume and changing notes velocites. Recently though I have had problems with reaper closing unexpectedlywhich all daws have done to me by the way. But it only started happening to me when I had the need to install some stupid ad-aware and quicktime ect... I am using xp but am now comtemplating to go back to vista 64 to use 8gb or ram because my tracks are getting up to 3gb large and that could be a problem too. I could not seem to get stylusrmx to work on it multitimbral aswell and glitch vst :(

My work flow has never been more faster and more creative when using reaper. They took what worked for logic and went with it. I used to use logic on windows untill they bitched out on me. Ever since I looked into mac versions but they always missed something or there was a bug that was worse on mac. Logic is gonna take awhile to get good again. Any one wanna chime in on this. I used to use logic all the time untill the 1gb ram limit on the win ver started affecting my vst creative side. For some reason sonar never clicked with me. even with the ver 7 with new midi stuff. When ever I thought something would work a certain way, it didn't and that happened way to much for me to find sonar useful. Cubase had it moments for me but fell short with some midi editing and I didn't like mouse functions. I used sx ver 1 and have not used ver 2,3,4. If you wanna use a daw that focuses on a jam packed mouse click interface do yourself a favor and check out reaper. It has a mapping utility for your faders and all that good stuff. It is no Bull free for evaluation with no ending trial period. Use it untill you feel that you should pay basically. Updates roll out every month or so it seems like. Meaningful ones too. Good luck with your quest. It will have its ups and its downs and take forever if you let it consume you. Regards echo PS if you really don't give a fuk try MTV music generator / Music 2000 the original. Same program different names. Not part 2 or 3 on playstation those are complete pieces of shit. With Music 2000 / MG You could import wavs and edit parameters for every single note which I still think every other daw on the planet lacks this feature inthe way they pulled it off. Its like a sampler sequencer where all the notes have there own edit table where you can change pan, pitch, delay effect type, adsr and how many times the note repeats. To bad the sound quality sucks and the company went off the deep end.....

Another question. Can this +12v/-12v power supply http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1100 also supply the 5v for the core aswell? I just want know if its even possible DIY style as I would like to have only one power cord to plug in when I get this thing built. Regards echo

I am gutting out an old roland rx-62 mixer for my mbfm and wanted to reuse the power supply. I unfortunately have no idea what the specs are on the power supply and the power pcb board. The main reason I want to reuse is everything is internal with external switch and power cord coming out the back. The number indicated on the power block supply is 070-2024B-800-0 and it also says CHIA BAN 9634. The power pcb's name is citizen 4V0 RX-62_E rev. 1 the power board might make sense if I stare at it for a few hours but the power block is all sealed up with some wires coming out of it. I am probalby going to run into a dead end with this one. Any suggestions on how to test these pieces. the unit says it uses 13 watts if that helps. I can take pictures if it will help. echo
