Yup, i was thinking of a seperate application instead earlier, similar to the test tone one! If i ever delve into C i might just make one. ;)

The MB Sid forum would be best imo, maybe the walkthrough sticky could be removed if clutter was to be reduced. Anyways here is a novelty idea/suggestion i had for the firmware. A tone generator function, which would show the current frequency of an oscillator in Hertz. Im not sure which way it could be done. Either, you go to a GEN/TON function lets say in the menu, and when its switched on the first osc of the first sid plays a note, and the frequency is automatically at 0 Hz, until you use the transponse & finetune knobs. or..... You have to do the note manually via a midi controller, and it calcuates the frequency, taking note of which note is on, and what the current detune is. Totally novelty but might be useful for engineers. Im sorry if im being a bit crazy here, if im suggesting it in the wrong place, and if im wasting yere time by mentioning such a crazy thing. :-\

Thanks for organising this G. ;)

For "as new" & tested chips wilba is the best person around to buy from. BUt if youre after the older sids, the likes of the 6581s, which have a different sound then you could pick a few up off the market. theres different revisions of the 6581s, some say they are warmer, and have different filter sound. But the 8580s have a very "clean" sound. Remember that the filters in these older chips have a higher chance of being broken than the 8580s/6582A's.

MB-6582 front panel - I'm about to start. Feedback ... ?

I know man, and i apologise if im pissing off other members on here! I have absolutely no concentration or follow through, and i have yet to figure out the optimised c64 circuit! I seriously need to start building and make more constructive posts! :-\ -
Id suggest circuit bending it instead if youre interested in it. I have a yamaha PSR 48 myself rippped apart, but didnt get around to bending it yet! Theres 2 PCB's connected by short cables soldered to the boards, so it will make it a bit awkard! Must check out which fm chip it has again.

JB Weld is apparently stronger than most think. "This is what happens when you try to JB Weld a front control arm bushing on a BMW. We now know that JB Weld is stronger than aluminum.".......... http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=HpKOGaFqAuQ -
Bit hard to test really. Unless theres some sockets which clip onto the pins from the sides that nobody knew about! And i dont think wilba has a midibox fm. or do you ould chap?

A good lesson - Always check out the Bulk Order forum regularly! Or you might be missing out! ;) And the Fleamarket too actually!

YOU BUY FO ONLY 2 DOLLA! "CHEAP-CHEAP!" http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=wdMDWEpbrHU One for the midibox hall of fame! @ napierzaza You have Eagle eyes (no pun intended :P) man! A great asset to the community. It took me a good while to even spot the broken trace in the pic after you alerted us to it. It reminds of the scene in Platoon, where theres a fox hole right in front of Charlie Sheens eyes, and he cant see it, so Alias spots it out for him. Youve got that "500 yard stare man!" @syamajala Thanks for taking the time to do this thread, the Midibox FM doesnt get much attention, with the dominance of the MB Sid, its real helpful what youre doing.

Never mind the list i was making for the wiki. Smash said there was no need, i think he might be posting here soon. So if anyone else wants a kit just say it on this forum.

Almost forgot..... The Chips arrived today as expected, and the packaging still perfect. Wilba i honestly cant thank you enough! Now back to the pcb list.....

It seems a very extreme method for saving a few bucks on postage, and i'd guess it would be a huge inconvenience for smash. If he was to add the 2 lcds to his package, it would probably end up costing more to ship anyway. My advice is maybe try to get a bulk order started. Nebula did one a few months ago, and we saved a lot of money thanks to him! these were for Optrex displays. And also, do not buy direct from crystalfonts as you can pick them cheaper elsewhere. Take their 24x4 lcds on here for example: http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/zz-xb-lcdxx Shipping is only 11 dollars airmail to my country for example. Unfortuneatly they do not stock 40x2 lcds.

First of all *This thread has nothing to do with male genitalia* :P Ive created this thread for: 1. People to share some nice Knobs they have found, and where to buy them. 2. to see some alternatives to the Albs (Waldorf) knobs. (which are the most distinct and nicest i have seen so far): It would be great to see manufactures that do a variety of colours too. In a perfect world i would love to buy bright green Waldorf Knobs, for my MB colour scheme. I tried doing a search for distinct knobs myself using google + globalspec, but it only revealed very generic/plain looking ones. It will be interesting to see what people can share. :)

Dude when i heard the first track i thought the sounds were very nintendo like and then noticed nintendo in the tags. Edit: I really should have read that you used a midines too in the post! It did sound like it was too good to be true that the mbsid sounded so close to a nes. Thanks for taking time to get this up, the more vids up the better imo!

Hehe As a Cork man, i let my county down, - i don't like Murphy's Irish Stout. As an Irish man, i let my country down - i rarely drink! :P

Hmmm, is the Hardsid Quadra PCI being discontinued then? Unless theyre going to update their site and have the old section back, but thats doubtful.

Wilba can do whatever the fuck he wants as far as im concerned! The amount of work he puts into this community is stagerring, and probably more effort that its worth for him (not for us obviously). Meh, rant over.

Im a noob! But with some Digital Multimeters you can measure the capacitance. Some info: http://www.pupman.com/listarchives/1998/April/msg00625.html http://elm-chan.org/works/cmc/report.html http://www.antonine-education.co.uk/physics_a2/module_4/Topic_7/Topic_7.htm

Very true! Still though if youre after a very specific sound youll want the synth that can make it!
