Thank you very much mobeius. Icould of course check the footprint in eagle and match it to something, but I havent had time to do so yet. If mouser carries this murata part then I'll just use it.

I had considered doing this for the sid project, but I havent the time to start yet....If there is enough interest I could perhaps try harder to find the time....

I am about to start my digital electronics course at school (2 weeks!), and I had planned to break down everything about the MBHP modules for my own personal knowledge. I would be glad to give a report on theese things as I discover them for myself. This could take a little time, and surely there are people that already understand theese things fully, but as I will be doing it anyway, I thought I would offer.

Can anyone specify some model number/manufacturer of trimmers that fit tk's AOUT board design?
-
Not to mention someone with a roland synth in need of that chip would be putting it to better use.
-
If it is only on the edge I would think it is not thermal paste, or at least tht it had not been installed (or not properly). I would agree that it maybe could be some QA marking, but that's not too comforting either. I pulled a sid from a worjking c64 once , andhte thing seemed to work except the filter. Swapped in another, pulled from a dead c64, and it all worked fine. Havent had the time to switch my working modules over to 8580 to test my new chips ( hoping for the thanksgiving holiday to provide the time). Did you buy any extra? I made sure to in case some didn't work.( and if they all do, I build more!) I'd build the sid up to step a and test them.

Anybody know of some software like icprog that runs on dos and works with the jdm?
-
It's normal, for a chip that was installed. I got some NOS 8580's and they where free of any thermal paste and look brand new ( as it should be). I would think that that chip had been installed in a c64.

Good suggestion Dr.Bunsen. It could even be gutted , put in the same box with the sid , and add another core, runnig mb64e and add the controls to the sid panel to control the effects.... great, if you like the effects it has.

Your idea sounds really cool! Here's another similar idea maybe you would like. put rows of buttons up the neck to correspond with the notes on a real bass. Like where the frets would be would be four buttons(or five if you like five string) then at the back could be one more row off buttons to trigger the notes of each "String" that way you could finger it like a bass and "pluck each string individually or together for chords. the notes could be set to sustain a certain duration, controlled by a pot, or to sustain as long as the button is held. you could still have a slider for bends and stuff, and pots and buttons for other things too.

As is said before, but this time in a different phrase..."HELL YEAH!!"

I find it particularly disgusting that this guy claims to be christian (from his website) And then says and does the things he does. This sort of thing always turned meoff about christians, though I Do now consider myself one. This only brings shame to fellow christians and to god.... So, enough with the religious rantings. As A midiboxer I am even More offended. and I fail to see how this guy thinks he can even do it, does he have any idea how hard it would be to make a midibox half as good as Axels? and If i were Axel......whew...I'd pity the guy for what i would do......... Thank you much for your quick and informed statement to this scum! AB

Of course if you had the contents of the rom you should be able to burn one. Where to get the contents? I don't really know, perhaps there is a way to read the contents from one rom to be burnt to new one's? Or maybe Roland has , and will give away, that data. I have been wondering the same thing as i need roms for a korg dw8000.......

Then I'm sure yoou'll want the MidiBox LC! Love the Box, kinda like the korg legacy collections mock ms20 controller.....but cooler, cuz you built it yourself and didn't pay way too much for it! Really looks awesome, good luck on your next box!

AIn with other values than 0 to 10K ...
arumblack replied to gillesdeshays's topic in Design Concepts
Well, if the pots are from an audio mixer, they are probably logarthmic, and mios should have linear pots. I think log pots will work but the values you get will not be equally spaced. as for swapping between audio mixer and midibox, i am not sure that this is possible, and if it is it is probably not easy. I think I would keep your very high quality audio mixer as is, and build a seperate MidiBox. If I had a very high quality audio mixer, I wouldn't go mucking around inside and adding things to its pristine circuitry, but I have never had the pleasure of owning such a mixer. Maybe you could look for a broken mixer on ebay. Just my thoughts, anyone else got a comment? -
I'm pretty sure a one rated for a higher voltage and amperage should be fine, just never use a smaller one. If you are really worried you could just use four diodes as described elsewhere.

I think theese are the same I got for my sid cs. Ibought them from mouser at the same price so I am pretty sure it is them. I have only used on so far, as construction of the front panel has slowed me down. I have been using it on the data wheel and it works well, though it has not recieved much use as I have been using j-sytnth for editing. So I can say they work well but I can't say as to how they hold up yet.

maybe I didn't understand correctly, but then shouldn't only the items x+1 days old be returned to "New" status? it seems like everything gets reset... and only after a few days..... however I can deal with it if it keeps the forum running smoother. I will just need to learn how to remember what day it is and when i was last on the forum.......not so easy for us with ADD..... Thanks for the insight Smash!

On the mios V1.7 hardware mods page it states thatCore J:11sc is to be moved to core J:11MD. In this post it states Core J:10 instead. I believe that this post is right because there is no J:11 sc or md, but there is on J:10.... so To save confusion A change may be necesary.. Now to modify my mbSID!

Thanks very much guy's. I actually have read that rane article before, but was still a little confused. I have printed it out for my reference now. Thanks again!
