You can power the board via J1 with AC/DC (J1 goes to the rectifier, then to the 7805, ie the merger has a full PSU section). J2 of the core needs to be connected with J2 of the merger board. Since the merger doesn't really have any other port, I assume that's a typo? Semi-edit: I just noticed it's actually called JP4 in Mike's layout... Your caps are correctly aligned (at least they match with the pcb layout). The voltages on the merger should be essentially the same as on the PIC18F core module. What are you trying to do atm? Upload the merger app? Is the bootloader preburned on the PIC? If not, you'll need to burn the hex file, not upload it. Do you have another core that you could check the PIC in? Do you get upload requests from the PIC in MIOS Studio?

Entschuldige meine mangelnde Begeisterung ob eines Erstposters, der a) den DIY-Gedanken anscheinend nicht so ganz versteht, b) offenbar keine Shift-Taste hat, c) mit Satzzeichen und Grammatik nach etwas speziellen Regeln anwendet, d) sammichSID nicht richtig schreiben kann e) und zu faul ist wenigsten anständig zu schreiben, was er denn eigentlich sucht f) und dann auch noch pampig wird. Viel Erfolg beim Suchen. Einen sammichSID kriegt man im Übrigen in grob 3-4 Stunden zusammen gebaut (im Vergleich zu nahezu jeder Ausprägung einer v1 ein Kinderspiel) - so viel Zeit sollte doch drin sein, oder?

Laufen würde ich das nicht unbedingt nennen. Selbes AIN Modul an anderem Core läuft? Vorschlag: Eins nach dem anderen. Alles abziehen, was nicht notwendig ist um Fehler 1 (Display) zu beheben. Megatempo == ? Das ist ein Upload Request vom Bootloader, der bei jeden Bootvorgang einmal gesendet wird (wenn MIOS drauf ist) - sprich: Dein Core bootet konstant neu. Vermutlich weil das Display irgendwo dran hängt, wo es nicht hingehört. Gibt's Bilder in guter Qualität, wo man die Kabelage mal sehen kann? (oben, unten, kabel, display)

There is no such thing as "current overkill". The current rating is always a MAXIMUM rating, telling you how much current the PSU would be capable of delivering. The current sink (in your case the MIDIbox) only draws as much current as it needs. Before you get much deeper into building a power supply, take some time and look into Ohm's Law and some basics of electronics. Otherwise chances aren't too bad you'll release some magic smoke :-)

The "main" output is a mix of all the single outputs. It's lower than all individual signals, so that the maximum output (with all individual inputs @ maximum) will be roughly the same as the maximum output level of a single channel. That's normal.

That LCD is pretty much an industry standard, so you should find matching ones @ mouser, reichelt, rs, digikey, ... As per jumper settings: I don't know exactly which one you have (Wilba ships different ones with the different batches), your best bet is to write to him directly (PM or eMail), he typically has some spares, too ;)

That was the backlight LED, which sank too much current. If you don't need/want/care for backlight you should still be able to use the display, if not you want a new one.
