  1. Hello. Too bad you fried the brick. But I wouldn't let that get to me if I were you :). They have a bad reputation of failing. Because it broke it doesn't mean you did it ;). (personal crusade against c64 bricks :P) If u don't feel confident enough to build a modern one, you should look into the option on finding a psu kit or something. I have some designs, but no one ready for release yet, and I know many others are working on some designs too, so there might be a kit of some kind available specifically for the mb synths soon. But don't go waiting for it though ;)
  2. New pics! :) Nao u really see the final shape of it! Have fun!

  3. :nuke: The enclosure is soon ready for the warp core! Today, before and after easter dinner party at the in-law's place  , I killed some time in the workshop. Enclosure model is due to be finished tomorrow - or at least the wood work part of it. Still needs heavy bondo work to be all there, but I am pretty sure I'm starting that tomorrow. I haz some new pics too of course! :w00t: First sidewall for the right horn installed. Lots of angles, lots of work. Here is a picture of the front, where you can see all the cool angles all around. Magic :sorcerer: Suddenly all the side panels is installed, and even the top panel of the horns :) Mmmmm. angles! Front. Sidepanels. mmmm... more angles  And that is about how far I got today. The only thing missing is the small pieces of the back panel. Give me 30 minutes tomorrow and they're installed too :super: Until tomorrow, have fun with the pics :). PS. If anyone have suggestions to what to call it (it needs a logo!!) please share your ideas! :)
  4. Heh nils, i never visualized hall fx sensors as part of a musical instrument... The only application I have used those in, is pneumatics. But that is long time ago. I wonder how it works...neoprene surface, but what is under it then I wonder...
  5. Just updated the enclosure blog with a couple of new pics :) have fun!

Ahh, more pics to come in a couple of moments :) Case model almost complete. Due to be finished tomorrow!

  6. :w00t: Today I used up some hours of my day off for enclosure construction! A couple of pictures of the build so far: A picture of the front. Didn't have all the right tools, so it was a pain getting everything line up, so some bondo work will be needed to correct everything before making the mold. Just a quick shot that shows the horns on the front. The angle is gonna be approx. how I hold the "horn". Hope u like it :) Until next time, have fun :)
  7. Here's the golden rule to put to use when searching for errors. Start in one end and check if things are ok. If ok, go to far end of the circuit and check if it's ok. If ok, divide the circuit in your head in the middle, and check one half at a time and so on. This is the fastest way to locate unknown errors in a circuit. One example so that you for sure understand what this method means in practice: Look at this circuit: 230v wall plug -> 20meter cable -> box where cable is spliced with another -> 20meter cable -> lightbulb. The most logical way to fix this is to first start at one end. Is the wall plug plugged in? if yes, go to the lightbulb, is that ok? If in doubt, replace it. Is the circuit working now? No? Then divide in 2 halfs, wich means, go check the box where the two wires are connected together and so on. I realize you have failed to search the right way here. And don't worry, most people do so - error searching is one of the most complicated things to wrap your head around, human nature always seems to get in the way somehow, and in bigger systems and circuits, it takes a great deal of self disipline to be able to start the right way and follow that through :). But you see what I mean, yeah? instead of starting to check for shorts / broken traces "in the middle of nowhere" you should've started with measuring the PSU at first to make sure that was allright. Especially since they have a bad reputation :) hehe. Personally I wouldn't use a c64 brick for supplying anything that is as sensitive and valuable hehe, but that's my personal crusade - there are many people using the brick with their sid synths and are happy with it :). After all, it's all retro :).
  8. Yes, that's the controller. Omg the stand for it is sexy. And yes, it's really expensive. But I am pretty sure that it is that expensive exclusivly because there is no volume production, and it is handmade all the way. I don't think it has too much to do with the components or materials. iirc I saw a vid interview with L. Haken, saying that he and his fater in law were building them in the basement  But the touch technology would be very cool to find out more about. And what materials is used. I suspect it will be relativly cheap materials, but what makes it so expensive is the time it takes to put the things together.. Well.. This is only me putting the finger in the air, no facts to base these assumptions on... If I were to build one, I wouldn't be very interested in a lot of it's features, like different tunings and stuff like that. I like compatibility with other musical instruments hehe. But what really makes me like it is the whole concept with the touch - One thing is u can play it stepless in both axis with pitch on one axis and filter settings on the other axis, but also the polyphonic aftertough with this touchboard makes it really interesting. Ahhhr, I really want one, but unless I win a million bucks in the lottery wich I never play anyway hehe, I won't be buying one of them, ever. :). But building one with similar features :D yes. I'm sure it can be done if Haken build them in his basement. I don't say it will be cheap, but I am 100% sure it will not be anything near Haken's price.
  9. Yo TK! This looks really really good!
  10. Done! :). An interesting survey. Good luck with your thesis.
  11. The harddisk idea is kinda neat. It's a sturdy construction, and it also feels nice. The precision - I have no idea. Gilesjuk, I don't know if I'm understanding you correct, but when I see talk of skateboard wheel bearings, or blades wheel bearings or whatever, the first thing that comes to mind is that these bearings is made for vertical position operation. I'm not sure how long they will last if u lay them down and put a disk on there and use it for spinning hands. There are bearings that are made for horizontal operation, and that might be a better idea... just throwing out some thoughts here... :). A little off topic, but horizontal bearings makes me think in awe of the industrial looking rotating synth stand that Jordan Rudess uses. I am gonna make myself one of those... one day... when I get old and :hairy: hehe.
  12. Yo, A long time ago I had a look at the continuum controller - the one that Rudess uses from time to time. It got me really puzzled... Does anyone know how it work, and what material he (Haken) uses for the surface? This is a really cool controller, and it would be cool to have some kind of similar surface on a diy controller. :) Anyone have any idea on this?
  13. Yeah, touchDAW is really nice. I've used it some myself, but since my only android device is a htc phone, the 3 inch screen gets a bit small for some real fun, but for transport control it work well.
  14. yo moogah, is there some pics that goes with the spi?
  15. I'm not at all sure about it, but I don't think it's heat shrink tubes in the picture, but you could sure use those if u want to. It is fairly common to get those small sizes too. But if u want cheap, and good availability, you should try ebay. Haven't looked myself yet, but I'm sure there are a lot of chinese-ish ebay stores that can provide this for "free" hehe. However, if it's about the mb6582, I would imho say that I don't think you need them. It's not that crowded, and if u place the body of the resistor all the way down on the pcb, it will be steady enough to never make shorts. I have done this myself, and I have soldered a lot of pcbs hehe, and I don't worry about it (shorts) at all regarding my own mb6582. But if it make u feel better, of course :) Try it. You probably won't need to shrink them yourself at all, as they will shrink when u solder the leads in the first place :). And what do u mean by mini-resistors? You get em smaller than the ones in the kit, but not small enough to solder in a horizontal position anyway - unless u go surface mounted, but then again, the pcb isn't designed for those, and it will be a lot of work to solder them, especially if u don't have too much soldering experience from before :). But this got me wondering... I need to figure out what is common material to use in those situation, if it's heat shrink (I don't think it is) or some sort of woven nylon tubing or something. I've seen it in a lot of places myself, but I never bothered finding out what it is, and where to get it :P.
  16. Thanks. I haven't been able to do any more work on it since this evening, but I hope to find time for it soon. I'm not the type who can just sit down with it for an hour or something. Need to be able to dig a bit deeper into it than one hour at a time. Hope to get some done this weekend :D

Ultra-cool, as usual. You are a :sorcerer: :)
  19. Yo julianf, I was thinking about getting my own design silkscreened to plexiglass or something fancy, but I think I decided I just need my mb6582 done, so I thought about using your service to get a panel made... Can u fix me up with a custom sized design? I don't wanna use the pactec enclosure, and I also don't need the back panel. My design is going to be a slightly bigger surface than Wilbas design. Same layout for the actual cut and milling stuff, only centered on a bigger surface, but not much bigger though. I would also like a panel I can spray myself, since I want a bright white glossy panel and signal red inlay. Can u hook me up? I could also go to å local cnc shop, but I like to support whoever doing a service for the community though. If u can, are u able to give me a crude suggestion on the price? As for postage, I'm in Norway. I guess this need to be taken through the customs and I will have to pay vat on it because of it, but that I will take care of, I only want a suggestion for your price to the border, and ill do the rest hehe.

I need a shack! Had a neighbour text me about the noise and it wasn't even loud. I hate living in a flat.....

Hehe. Some neighbours are worse than others. I don't mind a little life in my neighbourhood. And so does my neighbours. I often play loud music (el. guitar or making dance music) with windows open hehe. Gotta harden the neighbours a bit :D hehe.

  21. Hehe smashtv. U need to hammer out room for the horns I am growing? Yes, when I was very very young I also did a magic smoke release on my meter this way. I had gotten it for Xmas that year. A sad year that was. Hehe.
  22. He will probably hit me with the hammer on my head for saying this, as I know he has a heavy workload atm, but I say it anyway hehe. In case everything else fails I'm sure smashtv could help u locate the problem. I have a 6582 myself, but uses none of the psu components on board, so I'm not sure I can help u any better than the fine strophlex here. Smashtv, I'm sure u read this hehe, please give me the opportunity to put on a helmet before u take out the adjustment hammer hehe.
  23. I want it. Paypal? Sorry, it won't fit my needs afterall...
  24. Last night, when missus went to bed, and I thought I should also go to bed because it was late. And I saw my two gm5x5x5 boards on the workbench - a while since I worked on them. So I fired up the soldering iron - it needed some pump-work also, so, I sat there pumping and soldering for 2 hours after bedtime. :). That stuff is dangerous, I never pay attention to time when I build, and to not pay attention to time when it's getting near 2 in the morning, that is dangerous. Gonna build some ...
